July Monthly Meeting ~ Punchneedle

Let's try punchneedle embroidery!
With Patty Smith Gardner
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 ~ 7 PM ~ St. Lukes

We will make a small topiary ornament in this class. This ornament is simple and easy to do. You will need to know the “basics” of how to thread and use a punchneedle. If anyone wants to learn the basics, I will be available 45 minutes before the meeting for a quick lesson or refresher. You will need the Cameo Ultra punch needle with the Small and Medium Tips and a 7” locking lip hoop for this piece. I will bring along punchneedle sets and hoops for anyone to borrow for this class, and if you want to purchase one at the end of the program you can do so (*details below) or just return them to me after class. No obligation, this is just for you to give it a try!

The kit will contain the fabric pre-printed with the design, all the needed threads to make the ornament, the cardboard oval and padding for backing, and felt for finishing. Kit cost: $10. (no coupon; just bring along cash or check to meeting)

Bring: embroidery scissors, Fabric scissors, Cameo punchneedle set, 7” locking lip hoop, and usual lighting and magnification if you need it.

If you wish to make this a Christmas Topiary Ornament, as shown below, you will need to bring:
• a skein of #5 pearl cotton in red for the berries
• gold thread for the pot- DMC light gold 3 strand floss, on a spool as pictured below; it is
available at JoAnn fabrics or Michaels.
• any thin red ribbon you wish for trimming the tree. I used River Silk ribbon pictured below–
4mm wide, color 236, available at Fireside.

*After class, Punchneedle sets and hoops available for $25.(needle set) or $7. (hoop)
